natrl™ box water is not trying to compete with five gallon water bottles or home filters on taps. These are all great solutions to help the fight against plastic, which is something we heartily agree with.
natrl™ box water was created as a solution for people that don’t want to drink desalinated water, but want a better option than multiple PET bottles. Unfortunately, we don’t have a true mineral water source in the UAE, we only have desalinated or distillation options for simple drinking water. If we want to consume quality mineral water, we turn to the only options available, being bottled water. natrl™ box water was created to support people who want to use quality mineral water and cut out plastic bottles. This is the first-ever bulk option for natural mineral water.
Our comparison is really with that of 10 x 1L PET bottles vs what we offer in our 10L bag-in-a-box. One solution for water consumption and plastic use won’t fit all. To have a global impact we will need to have numerous options that cater to all kinds of people and tastes.
natrl™ box water is a deep artesian natural mineral water, which is a different category such as desalinated water or ‘drinking water’. natrl™ box water is the most affordable mineral water available in the UAE market today, when compared to other mineral waters.
natrl™ box water is the first-ever bulk option for natural mineral water. We wanted to offer mineral water drinkers a smarter choice when it came to plastic consumption. Having a 10L bag-in-a-box allows us to cut plastic usage by 90% without comprising the quality or safety of the water. The 10L box fits into most fridges and is ideal for cooking or refilling your favourite reusable water bottle.
There are so many misconceptions when it comes to water quality and the cost associated with it.
Firstly, not all water is treated equally. So, when we talk about “natural” mineral water, it is untouched and is pure as nature intended it to be. It’s full of amazing minerals and nutrients that our bodies need. natrl™ box water is boxed at Awatoto site in Hawke’s Bay, New Zealand where it is naturally formed and the water is between 50-60 years old, so it’s as pure as can be. Desalinated water is used widely around the world and involves taking the salt out of sea water to make it drinkable. That costs a fraction of the price but is chemically treated and stripped of everything, and then finally the chemicals are added back in. Tap water is also desalinated water, but very few people would risk drinking from it as there could be water tank or pipe contaminations, high levels of sodium and chemical purifiers such as chlorine. None of this is good for you or your body. Clearly, we can all taste the difference in the quality of pure mineral water versus desalinated water.
Secondly, water quality is essential for optimal living. Our bodies are made up of 60% or more water and it is by far the most important complex nutrient we give our bodies, yet we tend not to question the quality of the water we drink or its source when it comes to rehydration. Every cell and organ function is 100% dependent on water for optimal function and wellbeing. Our bodies can cope without food for as long as seven days, but only survive without water for three days. We are aware of what we eat, and that is very important too, but the water we drink impacts our bodies equally and needs to be considered in the same way.
Naturally sterile water means that the water is sourced from 100% natural snow melt and alpine rain, which winds through pristine native forest before descending deep underground over a long period of time (60-70 years), ensuring it is sterile. It is also completely uncontaminated and free from filtration or chemical treatments, making it the purest possible water available on the market.
New Zealand’s geographical location makes it one of the purest water sources on Earth, with no neighbouring industries, manufacturing or associated pollutants present. This makes the rain quality pure too.
We do not offer five gallon plastic bottles due to our sustainability values. natrl™ box water is currently available in 10 litre boxes across numerous supermarkets, organic shops and online sites. The perfect size to fit either on your counter top or slip into the fridge.

Once our boxes are filled they minimise waste by using up every inch of the container due to its shape. This is the lowest possible carbon footprint for transportation and we also have the lowest possible waste.
We have invested in the best possible alternative to ensure our water is protected and measured against the highest food safety standards in the world – being New Zealand and the UAE – while minimising as much plastic as possible.
All our packaging is sourced in Australia from reputable, sustainable forests and suppliers. Our cardboard box and bladder are 100% recyclable. The bladder is not fused to the box, so it easily slips out to make it possible to recycle the plastic and paper elements of the container.
natrl™ box water uses two types of material for the inner bladder. Linear low density Polyethylene (LLDPE) in the inside layer and metallised polyester (METPET) as the outer layer.
The inner layer is one of the best possible types of polyethylene when it comes to plastic migration and is far better than your typical PET bottles. Our bladder is also 100% BPA free.
The outer metallised layer is there to protect the inner layer against environmental factors. The biggest cause for particles to migrate here in the UAE is heat (UV and sunlight) and this layer protects it from that, making it even safer to use. To round it off, the cardboard we use to box the bladder adds an additional layer of protection against the sun too.
We are huge supporters of people that are willing to invest in quality tap filters for their homes to make use of the desalinated tap water. This is a big win for the industry as a whole. Unfortunately one solution doesn’t fit all.

We are not suggesting we are the only or perfect solution to recycling, we are simply trying to make progress in this field. The bigger arching issue is the fact that recycling is not a top priority for a lot of people yet, and there’s a degree of education needed to achieve this. Once this becomes mandatory, or we manage to shift the importance of it, we will truly see an impact when it comes to waste management. The focus until such time needs to be on reducing our waste and ultimately what goes into the landfill.

Eco-Architect Awards
Launched in 2022, the natrl™ Eco-Architect Awards is a visionary competition that challenges young minds to shape the future by designing innovative structures using used natrl™ boxed water packaging. It’s more than just a contest; it’s a movement to inspire our youth to adopt an eco-friendly lifestyle and make a tangible impact on our environment. Last year, we saw 275 students from across the UAE unleash their creativity under the theme Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, with results that were nothing short of extraordinary.
The submissions from the 10 finalists of the 2022 awards composed the first natrl™ KidsCatalog, showcasing their designs and instructions for recreating them. The catalog is available for download from the natrl™ website, created to inspire other kids to get creative
and to Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle.
Jana, Bessma and Winona from Repton won the Junior natrl™ eco-architect award for their fully automated sweet dispenser using natrl™ boxes, and fashionably woven bags crafted from natrl™’s recyclable bladders. Siblings, Reissa and Raja from Repton won the Senior natrl™eco-architect award for their engaging and educational board game, complete with mystery cards made from natrl™ water boxes, specially-created game characters using the natrl™ water taps, and aesthetics designed by fashioning the natrl™ recyclable bladders.
All UAE residents aged 7-13 can participate in the competition.

4. Create a video submission explaining your design, the process, and your motivation to become the next natrl™ Eco-Architect.
5. 25 candidates will be shortlisted for an in-person Show and Tell session with our esteemed judges.
6. We will announce the 10 finalists on social media, who will then be invited to the awards ceremony.
Our panel of judges will evaluate each entry based on functionality, creativity, problem-solving, presentation, use of the box and bladder, and ease of recreation. And for those who truly stand out, three golden tickets will be awarded during the Show and Tell—an instant pass to the final round!
The grand prize for the winning eco-architect is AED 10,000 cash prize, given as a school bursary. The 10 finalist designs will be featured in the 2 nd Edition of the natrl™ Kids Catalog that will be shared online.
